HYPNOBIRTHING - BIRTH PLANNING - DOULA SUPPORT

"It is difficult not to get (joyfully!) emotional writing this review of Martha. From the very start Martha was generous with her time and our initial meetings were rich with information sharing but also plenty of space to get to know each other. She helped me develop my birth plan with gentle advice and no judgment, so that going into labor my husband and I were totally confident she would advocate for my choices. This trust and confidence in her support ended up being essential in my home birth. I was in active labor for around 26 hours and despite the physical challenge I wasn’t for one minute fearful or worried. Martha worked seamlessly with the midwife team and her deep knowledge and trust of physiological birth was evident (even to me in my fugue-like state!). She helped me into a range of positions, hand-fed me tasty morsels to keep up my energy, and when I was struggling mentally and emotionally many hours in, was the gentlest and most caring presence. Post-birth Martha was at our beck and call, visiting with supplies, nourishing food, and reassurance for us as first-time parents. She also cleaned and delivered the birth pool back to the Birth Centre—one of the many little tasks (including post-labour laundry) that we then didn’t have to then think about as new parents. Martha will remain a special part of our birth story and, we hope, a lifelong friend!"

"Martha is a warm, thoughtful and intelligent person....she helped build my confidence and advocated for us with the health service to ensure we got the support we needed. She is also very knowledgeable and shared many resources with were extremely helpful in supporting our decision making. I can't recommend Martha enough and know she was key in making the birth a smooth and positive experience."

"I wish I could give Martha 6 stars...Martha went above and beyond in every sense, she was a guide, a mother, a sister and a friend depending on what the moment called for especially in the first weeks with our little girl."
HOW WILL HIRING YOU AFFECT MY PARTNER’S ROLE DURING THE BIRTH?
As a birth doula my role does not supersede that of your birth partner. I am there to walk alongside you and your partner/support person and offer you continuous support emotionally, practically and physically. First and foremost I will work with you and your partner so you know your rights in pregnancy, labour and beyond.
WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE AS A DOULA?
In short, my training, passion and advocacy.
My passion lies in reminding my clients of their power - in their body, mindset and ability to advocate for what they want and deserve. Pregnancy can feel wonderful and exciting but also vulnerable as our bodies grow and hormones change, but with the right support the worries that may come along can be channeled into positive and proactive energy to achieve the birth and postpartum period you deserve.

I feel strongly about, and have done training around mental health support in the perinatal period. My clients and I work on bespoke birth support plans which involve finding safety in the support systems around you, tapping into your own resilience and asking for help. I work from a trauma-informed approach that recognises that no two people or birthing bodies are the same, and every pregnant person deserves compassionate and respectful care, for their voice to be heard, and their autonomy respected.

Additionally, I am passionate about the biomechanics of birth and preparing the body via body work and movement to soften, open and surrender to the birthing process. Switching off our thinking brains in birth, our bodies inherently know what to do if we let go of fear, minimise medicalisation, and prepare ourselves physiologically.
WHY IS YOUR HYPNOBIRTHING COURSE DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS? WHAT DOES IT COVER?
Hypnobirthing with Community Birth Club covers it all and more - antenatal education (everything + more you'd get in an NCT class), hypnobirthing (visualisation, affirmations, breath work, relaxation), advocacy, birth rights and the biomechanics of birth.
Martha promotes an informed, researched based approached whereby you know your body and baby best, having an informed, positive birth where your wishes and your rights are respected is the goal (rather than the *idealised* birth) and no two births are the same. Attending a CBC group course, you + your birth support person will also gain the support of a group of likeminded parents to navigate your pregnancy and parenthood journey alongside.
